Marien González- Hidalgo received her Bachelor's degree in Environmental Sciences from the University Autónoma de Madrid (2007). She has worked for two years at Friends of the Earth-Spain. In 2009-2010, she did the Masters degree on Environmental Studies at the Institute for Environmental Science Technology (ICTA) at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), focused on Ecological Economics. Her masters research was on the political ecology of forest fires, by means of a case study in South Catalonia.
Currently, she is a Predoctoral Marie Curie at the University of Chile. Her PhD focuses on current conflicts in forests in Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula. Her aim is to understand the power relationships inside these conflicts, the different discourses used and the alternative realities imagined, and how all these are related to the constitution of social identities. In her research, she tries to integrate feminist political ecology and social phychology.
